A sonohysterogram is an ultrasound of the uterus to look for polyps, fibroids or scar tissue in the uterus. It is usually done for abnormal bleeding or when an abnormality is suggested on a pelvic ultrasound. A small amount of saline is placed through the cervix during the procedure to open the uterine cavity slightly for visualization. Minimal cramping is experienced by the patient during the procedure.
